A San Antonio native whose credentials include the Tex-Mex outfit Texas Tornados, drummer Ernie Durawa plays with his namesake band every Tuesday in the back room of El Mercado, which was redesigned a few years ago as a high-quality listening room for dinner shows. Durawa’s deep connections with Texas musicians allow him to bring in some high-quality guest artists. This week it’s San Antonio’s Grammy-winning Los Texmaniacs. — Peter Blackstock

The Jack Allen’s Kitchen crew is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the first location in Oak Hill. Held on the patio, the party will include happy hour drink specials, complimentary bites and a raffle. A live performance from Duane & the Hipsters will start at 6 p.m. to keep guests dancing all night long. Provide a donation upon entry or bring in a nonperishable item to be donated to the Central Texas Food Bank. Whoever donates will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win fun prizes.

American-Statesman columnist Michael Barnes has written a number of historical columns about Austin. The third volume of “Indelible Austin: Selected Histories” collects several dozen of them to offer a comprehensive look back at this city, using stories not often included in typical histories of our city. Themes covered include natural settings, older neighborhoods, ancestral families, how politics and culture collide, and interpretations of how Old and New Austin relate.
