APL Then & Now. The Mayor’s Book Club closes out the year with a journey through the history of the Austin Public Library. With the new Central Library now open, the Library Foundation invites you to revisit the former beating heart of the library system, the John Henry Faulk Library. The trip through time includes Austin History Center Managing Archivist Mike Miller taking us through some of the library’s big milestones. Austin Pets Alive! Pop-Up Adoption Event. Enjoy food and drinks on Loro’s expansive patio while supporting Austin Pets Alive, the leading local nonprofit focused on a no-kill philosophy. There will be adoptable dogs, and adoption kits will be available for those who adopt a pet. Tito’s Handmade Vodka is joining forces with Loro, too, and will have take-home baskets for pets that get adopted, a dog tag machine, Vodka for Dog People swag and more. “She Loves Me.” Austin Playhouse celebrates the holiday season with a staging of this euphoric romantic musical comedy. “She Loves Me” is a charming story set in the 1930s about two feuding shop clerks. Coffee with John. The Natural Gardener’s Saturday class isn’t a typical one. Sit down for a cup of coffee and a discussion with John Dromgoole, the founder of the organic garden center sitting on eight acres in far Southwest Austin.
