Santa Claus is coming to town a little early this year. Don’t miss your chance to get your holiday family photos taken with him for free this weekend on the Long Center’s H-E-B Terrace — which has one of the best views of downtown Austin as a beautiful backdrop for the occasion. Pictures are on a first-come, first-served basis. Being in line is no guarantee of getting your picture taken. There will be holiday treats and other activities.
2. ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot

Work out before filling up on your Thanksgiving feast. The 29th annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot is a 5-mile run through downtown Austin, beginning and ending at Auditorium Shores near the Butler Hike & Bike Trail. The event is the largest 5-mile race in Texas and one of the largest Turkey Trots in the nation. Funds raised by the race benefit Caritas of Austin. — Johanna Gretschel
3. Longhorn City Limits with Black Pumas

Austin’s red-hot rock and soul outfit Black Pumas recently nabbed a Grammy nomination for best new artist. The group will make a triumphant homecoming, blessing the Longhorn nation with their revelatory rock and simmering soul, with a postgame performance on the University of Texas campus after the Horns take on Texas Tech. Austin’s Latin rock lifers, Vallejo, will play before the game at 9:30 a.m. — Deborah Sengupta Stith
4. Cocoa Jingle in downtown Buda

Forget the big box stores and shop locally owned businesses in Buda on Small Business Saturday with your loved ones. The afternoon begins at noon with an appearance by Santa. There’s also an Ornament Market, a Cocoa Jingle offering free cocoa samples at participating stations, and a Jingle Jammie Contest inviting you to wear your most festive pajamas. The evening concludes with a downtown lighting ceremony.
5. Holiday Movie Series at Easy Tiger

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — especially for movies. Head to Easy Tiger’s downtown beer garden for weekly screenings of some beloved holiday films, starting with Sunday’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” The 1993 movie is about the misadventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown's beloved pumpkin king. Drink specials include $5 hot toddies and $5 Cranberry 76s.
