Here’s what’s happening in the Live Music Capital of the World this week.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: Clifford Antone’s Birthday Celebration with Sue Foley & Friends at Antone’s. Sunday would have been the 70th birthday of the local legend who founded Antone’s nightclub and the Antone’s Record Shop. Its legacy as Austin’s home of the blues lives on, thanks to a core family of musicians and blues enthusiasts who have made it their mission to extend his vision. Foley, a Canadian who moved to Austin as a young guitar firebrand and recently returned here, leads up this two-days-early bash with a crew that includes Mike Flanigin, Derek O’Brien and the Texas Horns. $15-$18. 8 p.m. An after-show party features Lightnin’ Malcolm ($10, 10:30 p.m.). 305 E. Fifth St. antonesnightclub.com. — P.B.

Saturday-Sunday: Wilco at ACL Live. If it’s been six years since Wilco played the Austin City Limits Music Festival, that’s mostly good news for their local fans, who’ve been able to catch the groundbreaking Chicago indie band play much-longer-than-festival-length sets at venues including Stubb’s and Bass Concert Hall during that stretch. On the heels of "Ode to Joy," their new album released earlier this month, Jeff Tweedy and company return to town for two nights at the city’s marquee music venue. We’re still settling in with the new album, but the hide-and-seek video for the single "Everyone Hides" is a refreshing revelation of their humorous side. Molly Sarle opens. $49.50-$69.50. 7:30 p.m. 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. acl-live.com. — P.B.

Saturday-Sunday: Piknic Electronik at Vic Mathias Shores. The electronic music festival celebrates year two at the city center park formerly known as Auditorium Shores. With headliners who lean toward the "chilled out grooves" end of the electronic music spectrum, the event is not a bass-heavy rave but instead an opportunity to explore varying sonic textures and tastefully spliced flights of imagination, all while noshing on high-end bites. Saturday headliner Damian Lazarus weaves swatches of melodies from around the world into mysterious soundscapes, while Sunday headliner Honey Dijon plays a genre-defying mix of uptempo dance grooves. The festival is deliberately family friendly, with a special Petite Piknic kids area set up for the little ones. You can pre-order picnic baskets from Central Market, hit up one of the on-site food trailers or carry in a one-quart, clear plastic bag of snacks. $15 daily (kids 10 and under are free; limit two kids per adult). 2 p.m. gates. 730 W Riverside Drive. piknicelectronik.frontgatetickets.com. — D.S.S.

Tuesday: J.D. Souther at One World Theatre. Born in Detroit but raised in Amarillo, Souther is most commonly associated with the Southern California folk-rock scene circa 1970 that produced the likes of Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles, both of whom recorded songs Souther wrote. His own breakthrough as a solo artist came with 1979’s "You’re Only Lonely," the title of both an album and a top-10 pop hit. After 1984’s "Home by Dawn," he went almost a quarter-century without a new record, but he’s released four since 2008, a welcome return of a singer-songwriter with a golden tenor voice and a gift for gracefully melodic songcraft. $30-$103. 8 p.m. 7701 Bee Caves Road. oneworldtheatre.org. — P.B.

Thursday: Día de Los Muertos at Scholz Garten. Remember your ancestors and celebrate the spooky spirit of the season with a host of top Austin talent in one of the oldest businesses in the state. Black Angels frontman Alex Maas and sparkling Selena tribute act Bidi Bidi Banda share top billing on a roster that also includes psych-rock outfit the Matt Gilmour Band and party-rocking DJ crew Peligrosa. The event will include a "dress to kill" costume contest, altars and specialty cocktails. $20. 6 p.m. doors. 1607 San Jacinto Blvd. scholzgarten.com. — D.S.S.

Thursday: Ghostland Observatory at Carson Creek Ranch. Weather permitting, Halloween under the stars at this private ranch in far East Austin with a group renowned for throwing Austin’s best laser-heavy dance party sounds magical. Dynamic electro duo Ghostland Observatory headlines an evening that also features performances by electro-dance upstarts Fort Never and top turntablist DJ Chicken George. Your host for the evening is ATX rapper Zeale, who scorched Austin City Limits Music Festival with a blistering freestyle on Gary Clark Jr.’s set. A portion of proceeds from the event benefit the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. $50 ($20 cash for parking). 7 p.m. 701 Dalton Lane. See the event’s Facebook page for more details. — D.S.S.
