There’s no doubt Austin City Limits Festival has become an indelible piece of our music-loving city’s identity, but for people who would prefer a more low-key day of tunes away from the hubbub coming to Zilker Park, one Driftwood brewery is offering an alternative.
Vista Brewing has teamed up with Sun Radio for Outside the City Limits, an event boasting a lineup of country, western swing and bluegrass bands — all locally based. The day-long fest on Oct. 6 will have two stages of live music, as well as Vista’s beers, multiple food vendors including Salt Lick BBQ, and lawn games.
The bands headed to the scenic 21-acre destination brewery, which opened this spring, include Padre Paul, the Hot Texas Swing Band, the Lost Pines, Light Horse Harry, Sour Bridges and headliner the Derailers. The headliner plays at 7:30 p.m., after a full afternoon of performances starting at 1 p.m. Outside the City Limits runs the first weekend of ACL Fest, which kicks off Oct. 5 and lasts two weekends through Oct. 14.
Besides music, Outside the City Limits has games like giant Jenga and cornhole, a Kammok Hammock Grove underneath live oaks, a variety of Vista beers and brewery tours throughout the day, a selection of wines from Texas Hill Country wineries, and more. Joining the Salt Lick and Vista with food offerings are Mandola’s Italian Kitchen's mobile pizza oven and Kimchi Jon's serving up Korean street food.
"On the drinks side, we're excited to announce that our friends at Texas Fine Wine are bringing some of our favorite local wineries to the wine garden," according to a recent newsletter sent by Vista. "They will be sampling unique wines throughout the day, in addition to offering wines by the glass from Bending Branch Winery (where we sourced barrels for our beers), Duchman Family Winery (our neighbor here in Driftwood), Brennan Vineyards, Pedernales Cellars and Spicewood Vineyards."
To attend, purchase general admission tickets for $25 or VIP tickets for $125. VIP tickets get you access to a VIP lounge, a farm-to-table buffet from Vista chef Andrew Stiver, three drink tickets, fast-track entry to the festival and more.
