Theater & dance

"Playhouse Creatures." The latest City Theatre production, which is making its Austin premiere, is the inspiring story of the first actresses of England. They were determined to transform the theater world for good in the late 1600s, when women weren’t held in high regard. "Playhouse Creatures," by April De Angelis, is a high-spirited comedy that will resonate with modern audiences. 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday through Aug. 5. $10-$25. 3823 Airport Blvd. 512-524-2870, citytheatreaustin.org.

Craft at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden. Craft is an adult art program at the Umlauf combining two of Austin’s favorite things — craft cocktails and local art — for an evening of drinking and creating.? The workshop this time around will focus on blind contouring, a drawing technique involving the artist not looking at their page or removing their pencil from the page while they draw the subject. Participants will then have the option to turn their drawing into a 3-D wire sculpture. The Umlauf recommends signing up with a friend. 6:30 p.m. July 19. $30 for members, $35 for guests. 605 Azie Morton Road. umlaufsculpture.org/craft.

Nightlife

Christmas in July at the Brass Tap Domain. Just because our favorite holiday is six months away doesn’t mean we can’t have some Christmas cheer in July.
