As of right now, the Sunday forecast is calling for rain, which means that those of us who had visions of backyard barbecues and picnics in the park for Father’s Day might need to come up with Plan B.
Need some inspiration?
Here are some ideas sure to impress Dad this weekend.
Whether you’re seeking a boozy brunch or a lingering dinner, restaurant critic Matthew Odam has you covered with a list of 15 great dishes for Father’s Day that you can enjoy from the safety of an inside table or covered patio this weekend or anytime.
Prefer to cook at home? Here are some bourbon-glazed steak tips you can make in a skillet. Or try a meal the entire family can cook together: homemade pasta (with tips from Austin chef Shawn Cirkiel).
There are a host of new movies out this weekend, including the family friendly “Incredibles 2” and “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” the documentary about Mr. Rogers.
You can also catch a couple of classics, “Goldfinger” and “Field of Dreams,” at the Paramount Theatre on Sunday.
Looking for something active and fun? Take Dad to the Austin Bouldering Project, followed by a pint or two inside at Friends and Allies Brewing or Austin Eastciders, both of which are located next door.
(See more places to try in our Austin360 Boozery Guide.)
For something a little farther flung (but still close to home), book a night at the J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa, where views of the lush, rolling hills are just as beautiful from the dry, comfortable lobby.
For something at home, root for the Longhorns in the College World Series. You can watch the game against Arkansas starting at 1 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.
