Summer’s most quintessential alcoholic beverage has its own national holiday, which gives us ample opportunity to enjoy it.
National Rosé Day returns on June 9 — it’s always on the second Saturday of the month — and Austin bars and restaurants are celebrating appropriately. Here’s how to enjoy the refreshing wine this weekend.
Summer Rosé Tasting at Twin Liquors. Get your weekend started early with a happy hour visit on Thursday to Twin Liquors’ largest Austin store, on the south side of town, where Texas Monthly wine writer Jessica Dupuy will host a tasting featuring some of her favorite rosés. The tasting, which includes wines like William Chris Vineyards’ Grenache Rosé, runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 4001-A S. Lamar Blvd.
Dandy Bubbles Release Party at Kitty Cohen’s. What could be better than sipping a Texas-made bubbly rosé poolside at one of East Austin’s coolest bars? Not much. The Dandy label, which annually releases a springtime rosé from a local sommelier, will launch the first sparkling version just in time for summer on Friday. Enjoy glasses (or even a whole bottle) of Dandy Bubbles at the party, along with food and more.MORE: One of Texas’ best rosés, Dandy, is back and better than ever
Rosé Day with Yoga Unwined at Vino Vino. How about a little recreation with that rosé? This Yoga Unwined workshop combines vinyasa yoga with fun wine facts. You’ll learn about rosé — a wine that gives a white wine personality to red grapes — through creative yoga poses. Afterward, stay for a rosé tasting at the wine-loving restaurant. Yoga begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and you can hang out at the bar at Vino Vino for snacks and sips through 2 p.m.
The 7th Annual Pink Mahal at Whip In. It’s easy to forget that this longstanding craft beer bar has one of the top wine selections in Austin, especially when it comes to rosé, but the Whip In is reminding us with the returning Pink Mahal on Saturday. The tasting event will offer 60 rosés from around the globe; try five of them, along with complimentary bites, for $28. Additional glasses are $5. There will also be Latin music performances.
Irene's will have $5 drink specials on both still and sparkling rosé wines in honor of National Rosé Day.
Rosé All Day at Irene’s. It might be hot, but you’ll still feel cool on Irene’s sprawling, tree-shadowed patio thanks to the refreshing glasses of rosé on special at the downtown bar near Shoal Creek, in celebration of rosé’s big day. A variety of still and sparkling rosés will be $5 all day long.
National Rosé Day at Hotel Van Zandt. The two restaurants at this Rainey Street hotel, Geraldine’s and Cafe 605, are both offering drink specials fit for the holiday. Cafe 605 will have a photogenic Frosé cocktail you can order, as well as a new list of rosés available by the glass and bottle. Geraldine’s is hosting Super Soul Saturday brunch with a rosé menu including wines from around the world.
TRACE’s National Rosé Day Brunch. There will be not one, but two themed brunches, one Friday and one Saturday, at the restaurant at the W Austin in celebration of the wine we just can’t get enough of. It’ll be pretty-in-pink both in wines by the glass and in specialty cocktails such as the Manaj Mango Margarita — even in rosé-infused dishes, including raspberry and rosé pancakes and rosewater yogurt parfait. Reservations are recommended.
