It’s no big surprise, as he was booked for a South by Southwest conversation months ago, but country star Keith Urban is now booked to play Stubb’s at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 16, as part of the SXSW festival.
Urban recently announced plans to release his ninth studio album, “Graffiti U,” later this year. He’ll speak about his career at 12:30 p.m. earlier that day at the Austin Convention Center in a session open to SXSW registrants only.
Lauren Ruth Ward, a southern-rock singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, is listed on the SXSW schedule as playing the 9 p.m. slot at Stubb’s that night.
Urban last played during South by Southwest in 2014, when he headlined a bill at ACL Live as part of Apple’s iTunes Festival that ran concurrently with SXSW. (He wore a Daniel Johnston “Hi, How Are You?” T-shirt at that gig. May we suggest something in a Roky Erickson tie-dye this time around, Keith?)
