Seven years ago, the City of Austin declared February 9 “Shakey Graves Day,” and the artist also known as Alejandro Rose-Garcia is still celebrating.

This year, Garcia has released two songs from his upcoming album “Can’t Wake Up” under the title, “the Sleep EP.” He has also made his entire catalog available at a pay-what-you-want rate on Bandcamp for the next 72 hours.

During that time span, he will be donating proceeds from concert sales for his upcoming cross-country tour, and half of all album sales to two charities: the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) and the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The new album finds Garcia moving in a new sonic direction. The sincere lyricism is still there, but with this release, he ditches his signature acoustic sound beds for a sweeping psych pop pallet.

Garcia will play a special intimate show tonight at Antone’s to celebrate. Ticket to the show were distributed through an online lottery earlier this week.
