For being such a short month, February promises to have an awful lot of booze-related events for thirsty Austinites thanks to the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras. Here are some of the notable things going on that you’ll want to check out. We’ll update the calendar as more events are announced. (And remember: Always drink responsibly.)
Saturday, Feb. 3
February First Saturday at Independence Brewing, 1 p.m. Beer specials, live music, food trucks, brewery tours — there are few better ways to kick off your month.
Better Half Pop-Up at the Brew & Brew, 2 to 6 p.m. Get a first taste of the Brew & Brew’s sibling project with complimentary sandwich bites and cocktail samples. T-shirts and swag will be on sale.
Sunday, Feb. 4
Craftsman’s 3rd Annual SOUPer Bowl, 2 p.m. Before the Super Bowl, several mostly Texas breweries will compete in a chili cook-off with recipes featuring their own beers. Stay afterward to watch the big game.
Super Celis Pigskin Party, 5 p.m. Sure, you could watch the Super Bowl at a sports bar, but how about at a brewery with a large projection screen? Celis will have beer specials, free food and interactive flick football games.
Monday, Feb. 5
Stout Week at the Dig Pub, 5 p.m. through Feb. 9. The Cedar Park bar is hosting a five-day celebration with a new dark beer tapped each day, starting with Texas’ Tupps Full Grown Man Imperial Stout.
Brooklyn Brewery’s Garrett Oliver at Easy Tiger, 5:30 p.m. One of the most esteemed brewmasters in the country will be in town to share some pretty special Brooklyn brews. Austin Beerworks’ Will Golden will join him in a panel discussion.
Thursday, Feb. 8
Beer Poking at Glass Half Full, 6 to 9 p.m. The bar at Alamo Drafthouse Lakeline is bringing back the beer poking tradition — ramming a red-hot poker into a pint of beer — with Strange Land Brewery.
Thinkery21: Human, 7 p.m. The Thinkery’s adult night will feature activities that explore what makes us as a species so special. What makes us blush? What makes us drunk? What makes us human?
Saturday, Feb. 10
Good Girl Gone Brunch, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trace at the W is celebrating National Umbrella Day (of course, a thing) with a Rihanna-themed brunch and cocktails while her music plays via DJ.
Spokesman Pub Cruze with Pinthouse Pizza, 11 a.m. The bike-obsessed coffee shop is hosting a ride to various local bars with Pinthouse brews on tap, including the Wheel and Waller Creek Pub House.
Fall Creek Vineyards’ Winemaker’s Valentine Luncheon, 12 p.m. Take a day trip to this winery with stunning Lake Buchanan views for this three-course feast with three Fall Creek wines. $50.
Zilker Bark Benefit for APA at the ABGB, 1 to 8 p.m. The Zilker Bark photographer will be taking pet photographs at the South Austin brewpub to raise funds for Austin Pets Alive. Sign up for a session; drink beer while you wait.
Sunday, Feb. 11
Bidi Bidi Brunch at El Chilito, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Manor location of the taco joint is hosting this month’s Selena-themed brunch with $1 mimosas, $4 micheladas and $3 brunch tacos.
?Celis Brewery’s Dark Odyssey Oatmeal Stout Launch?, 12 p.m. The second beer in Celis’ Single Tank series is this silky stout featuring "oatmeal in a way that will make you question your breakfast."
Aviary Wine School, 4 to 6 p.m. The South Lamar restaurant is going back to its roots with these monthly themed wine classes that will feature educational tastings. $25.
The Butterfly Bar at the Vortex’s 7th Birthday, 5 p.m. Celebrate seven years of this neighborhood spot with birthday cake, live music and drink specials all night.
Monday, Feb. 12
The Craft Series at the Driskill, 6:30 p.m. The monthly beer dinner at the Driskill’s 1886 Cafe & Bakery will feature ales from a relatively new brewery, Suds Monkey, just outside Dripping Springs. $40.
Tuesday, Feb. 13
Fat Tuesday Second Line Crawl, 7 p.m. West Sixth Street bars like Parlor & Yard and Star Bar are hosting this bar crawl that will have New Orleans drink specials and a gumbo cook-off.
Wednesday, Feb. 14
Anti Valentine’s Day at Second Bar + Kitchen, 5 to 10 p.m. The downtown restaurant is hosting a night of all-black for the broodier types out there, with a la carte dishes and a complimentary toast of lambrusco.
Valentine’s Day Chocolate Pairing at Craft Pride, 6 p.m. Have a sweet and boozy date with your honey this year. Craft Pride is pairing Crave Artisan Chocolates with beers like Austin Beerworks’ Choco Leche and Circle Brewing’s Lady Bird American IPA.
?Forthright’s Artisan Whiskey Tasting Dinner?, 6:30 p.m. The downtown eatery is teaming up with the D-FW distillery Firestone & Robertson for this three-course feast with whiskey cocktails. $65.
Friday, Feb. 16
Chinese New Year Dog Party, 12 p.m. Blue Owl Brewing is hosting this dog-friendly celebration featuring raffles, horoscopes for your dog, a photo booth and plenty of Dapper Devil, Blue Owl’s sour raspberry Belgian strong ale.
Oskar Blues’ Hotbox Coffee IPA Release, 4 p.m. When coffee and hops come together in just the right way, they produce a magical beer like this one.
Saturday, Feb. 17
Hi Sign Brewing’s 1-Year Anniversary Bash, 12 to 7 p.m. A year in, the East Austin brewery is ready to go big with a party that will have a variety of special beer releases.
Cowboys from Helles Release Party, 2 p.m. Independence Brewing is debuting a new beer, a Munich-style helles, just in time for the warmer months it’s meant for. In celebration, there will be a mini-rodeo at the party.
Thursday, Feb. 22
The Wheel’s Third Anniversary, 4 p.m. The East Austin bar is celebrating three years in business with draft specials and a $4 Whiskey of the Day.
Saturday, Feb. 24
Austin Oyster Festival, 12 to 6 p.m. Feast on oysters served just about every way imaginable while enjoying beer, wine and cocktails and the sounds of Cajun and bluegrass music.
Fiery Firkin Fest at Circle Brewing, 1 to 4 p.m. The North Austin brewery is celebrating the love of heat with spicy cask beers, and local hot sauce and salsa vendors Yellowbird Sauce and Jaime's Spanish Village will have their products out.
Craft Pride’s 5th Anniversary Party, 3 p.m. The Rainey Street bar is realizing its dream of an all-draft tap takeover (beers found only on draft) and will launch its bottle shop expansion, too. There will also be live music all day.
Sunday, Feb. 25
El Chipiron’s Gin & Tonic Mixology Class, 3:30 to 6 p.m. The Spanish restaurant is bringing back this workshop on building Spanish-style G&Ts, as perfected by Chef Pablo Gomez. $65.
