Austinites are about to get a veritable wonderland of booze with the opening of Twin Liquors’ largest store to date in the city.
At 4001 S. Lamar Blvd., the new location opens on Dec. 13 with a celebration that doubles as the liquor store chain’s 80th anniversary bash. The evening will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. and offer store tours, light bites, beverages, free T-shirts and more.
Twin Liquors’ flagship location just north of downtown, on Hancock, clocks in at 12,000 sq. ft. — making the new store 3,000 sq. ft. larger, at 15,000 sq. ft. All that extra room will be devoted to amenities that include a classroom-style seating area, a tasting bar in the middle of the store with a wine-dispensing system, and the largest walk-in beer cooler to date of any Twin Liquors store.
The location will be Twin’s 87th in Central Texas. It’s about 10 minutes away from the flagship store of Total Wine & More, a massive liquor store chain in more than 15 states around the U.S. Total Wine opened its first location in the Austin area (Sunset Valley, specifically) in 2015 and has opened a few others since.
