It’ll be pricey but worth it: Uchiko is partnering up with Jester King Brewery for a $175 multi-course dinner. Better yet, the feast will benefit Austin Pets Alive.
Sit down to the whopping 10-course meal — having basically fasted the entire day beforehand — at the North Lamar Boulevard sushi restaurant on Aug. 14, when diners will be treated to Uchiko cuisine and several of the beers currently offered at Jester King, as well as one that hasn’t been released yet.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the pet-focused nonprofit in honor of National Dog Month. To nab a seat in Uchiko’s private dininng room for you and your date, call Uchiko at 512-916-4808. The dinner will be at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 and at 4200 N. Lamar Blvd.
Here’s the menu, with Jester King beers listed first.
Opening drink: Final Entropy Shandy (Jester King’s Final Entropy, by the way, is a farmhouse-style kolsch that, though under the radar for many people more passionate about Jester King’s many fruited sours, is one of the best beers the brewery has made all year. It was a collaboration with Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery in Ohio.)
Oyster course: Hibernal Dichotomous (a seasonal beer made with grapefruit zest, fresh rosemary and dried red chilies) with oysters and madai
First course: Namazake (sake) with tofu, beer, oats, peach
Second course: Provenance (a farmhouse ale with citrus) with Shima Aji, cucumber, green tomato
Third course: Cherry Funk Metal with octopus, chili, sheep's milk yogurt
Fourth course: Omniscience & Proselytism (a barrel-aged sour refermented with strawberries) with foie, shiso, red curry
Fifth course: Commercial Suicide Farmhouse Mild with carrot, duck ham, sea buckthorn
Seventh course: Saison Americaine with mussels, XO sauce, gai lan
Eighth course: Spon (Jester King’s now-famous spontaneously fermented Méthode Gueuze beer, that is) with lamb, mushroom, onion
Tenth course: Viking Metal (This is the Jester King beer, done in the style of a Swedish farmhouse ale, that is thus far unreleased) with chocolate, white balsamic, fig
