Step aside, Cronuts. Get a life, sushi doughnuts.
To capitalize on the growing trend of food mash-ups, Walmart is releasing a new product this week called the Crotilla, a cross between a croissant and a tortilla.
The retailer has already trademarked the creation and invented a national day to celebrate it, April 25, conveniently enough.
Although I haven’t yet had a chance to try these Crotillas (samples have been requested for my weekly livestream video on Facebook), I figured y’all might have a few thoughts about this hybrid since it relies heavily on one of Texas’ most beloved food staples.
Earlier reviews have compared it to naan, pita and crescent rolls, and a brand rep says that the idea came when bakers with the store were trying to come up with a bread for sandwiches that they could use as an alternative to croissants, which fall apart when you cut them horizontally.
Crotillas officially went on sale on Monday in Walmart stores across the country, and each 8-pack costs $3.98.
