News anchor Karla Leal, part of the team that helped launch local news on Austin’s Telemundo affiliate, is leaving the station tonight after four years.
Leal, who also delivered weather forecasts, has landed a reporter gig at WSNS, the Telemundo station in Chicago, where she’ll be featured on the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts. Her first day is Aug. 5.
"We are pleased to welcome Karla to our news team," WSNS Vice President of News Diana Maldonado said via email. "Her experience and dynamic reporting makes her a great addition to our team and will help us to reinforce our position as a leading source for news and information for the Hispanic community that we serve."
Before arriving in Austin, Leal delivered the news in Bakersfield, Calif., but she’s got Chicago roots. Her career started at one of the Windy City’s public-access channels after she graduated from Columbia College Chicago.
Telemundo Austin is operated by KEYE, Austin’s CBS affiliate, and can be found on digital subchannel 42.2.
