UT’s Butler School of Music will present the university premiere of "A Woman in Morocco," a new chamber opera by American composer Daron Hagen.
"A Woman in Morocco" plays Oct. 25 - Nov. 3 at the McCullough Theatre.
Based on a play of the same name by Barbara Grecki, the two-act opera charts the tale of a naive young American travel writer in the 1950s who gets caught in a sorted and complex situation.
Hagen’s tonal almost jazz-like melodies mix with electro-acoustic moments to create "sound collages" that weave into the instrumental fabric of the score.
Hagen’s score calls for seven cast members to be accompanied by a 12-piece chamber orchestra. Click on the video link to hear "Love Comes With a Knife."
UT staged a terrific production of Hagen’s "New York Stories," an opera that wove together three short stories of real life New Yorkers struggling to find love and connection in the big city.
The 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 production of "A Woman in Morocco" will be webcast live. See www.music.utexas.edu for more information.
