Don’t let the recent rains fool you. Central Texas is still in an epic drought.
As a memorial to the more than 300 million tress lost in the drought and as a thought-provoker for ongoing water conservation, the "Thirst" project is ghostly white tree floating in Lady Bird Lake.
More than 14,ooo prayer flags with the tree’s image line the lake trail path.
Sponsored by Women & Their Work and funded by a grant from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, "Thirst" is the collaborative creation of Beili Liu, Emily Little, Norma Yancey and Cassie Bergstrom.
It will remain on view until Dec. 16.
In its gift shop, Women & Their Work is selling a variety of "Thirst" merchandise, including t-shirts ($16), tote bags ($10) and even "Thirst" prayer flags ($5).
You could buy a string of prayer flags for your backyard!
Proceeds go to support the non-profit Women & Their Work. www.womenandtheirwork.org
