Austinite Kat Candler looks to be nearing a turning point in her career. After more than a decade making movies, including the poignant 2006 feature "Jumping off Bridges," Candler is currently working with the biggest name talent of her career.

Aaron Paul of "Breaking Bad" and Oscar-nominated Juliette Lewis ("Natural Born Killers") are starring in Candler’s "Hellion," the feature film inspired by her short film of the same name. The movie is being produced by Austinite Kelly Williams, who attended the Sundance Creative Producing Labs to develop the film last year. Fellow Austinites Jeff Nichols ("Mud") and Sarah Green ("The Tree of Life") are serving as executive producers on the small-town family drama set in southeast Texas.

Paul plays a physically and emotionally absent father of two young boys, struggling to keep his refinery job and his family in order after the death of his wife.

The movie is currently being filmed in southeast Texas. Following her two visits with short films to Sundance in recent years, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Candler return to the prestigious indie festival with the feature.
