Remember "Spirit of the Marathon"?
I watched the documentary, which tracked six runners as they prepared for the 2005 Chicago Marathon, the night before I ran my first (and only) marathon.
I loved it. It captured all the grit and suffering of regular folks who ran 26.2 miles on one very special day.
On June 12, the same filmmakers bring us "Spirit of the Marathon II."
This time, the documentary focuses on seven athletes attempting to run a 26.2-mile race through the historic streets of Rome. Two are elite athletes, hoping to qualify for the Olympic Games. The other five are everyday runners. The film also includes interviews with marathon greats Stefano Baldini, Paula Radcliffe, Frank Shorter and Kathrine Switizer.
The film will be shown at 7 p.m. June 12 at theaters including Cinemark Southpark Meadows, Arbor Cinema, Metropolitan 14, Alamo Drafthouse Village, Cinemark Hill Country Galleria, Cinemark Cedar Park and Tinseltown USA Pflugerville. For more information go to www.fathomevents.com.
