Big changes are in store for the Schlotzsky’s 5K Bun Run this year.
The race, traditionally held in the spring, was pushed back to fall. Race date is Sunday, Sept. 28.
The other big change? Location. The race moves outside of downtown, to The Domain area. The 5K kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at the corner of Alterra Parkway and Kramer Lane. The Kid’s 1K starts at 8 a.m.
The race also gets a new beneficiary - JDRF, formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which works to improve the lives of people with Type 1 diabetes and find a cure for the disease.
Besides the 5K and Kid’s 1K, the event includes a team challenge and "Fastest Dog in Austin" race that’s open to dogs and their owners. Those who enter the team category are automatically registered for prizes included Austin’s Fastest Buns, Austin’s Fittest Buns, Austin’s Best Lookin’ Buns and Austin’s Most Generous Buns (and don’t ask me how that’s determined - I just hope I don’t win it.)
Entry fee is $30 for the 5K until Sept. 27, when it increases to $35. Kid’s entry fee is $15, and cost per canine is $10. To register, go to http://www.schlotzskys.com/bun-run.
