Mothers’ Milk Bank is an awesome organization, if only because it’s one of the most prominent local organizations to make breast milk cool.
(You know what’s not cool? Sexualizing breast milk or treating it like a joke. Don’t even get me started on the right to breastfeed in public…)
There’s the La Leche League of Central Texas, which helps thousands of local women get through the crazy journey that is breastfeeding, but Mothers’ Milk Bank serves a different purpose: To collect extra milk from lactating women in Central Texas for premature babies who need it.
From 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 2, you can swing by the tap room at Zilker Brewing Co., 1701 E. Sixth St., to help raise money and awareness for this organization, which donated more than $175,000 in milk to some of the tiniest babies in Austin last year.
The Beer, Babies & Boobs event is just the kickoff for a monthly fundraiser at Zilker. A portion of sales from the brewery’s coffee milk stout during February will benefit the milk bank’s charitable care program.
At the event next week, there will be live music, a food truck, on-site screen printing and original artwork available for sale. You can find out more at milkbank.org/about-us/news-events.
