Outstanding in the Field was way ahead of both the locavore and pop-up restaurant curves.
In 1999, chef/artist Jim Denevan hosted a pop-up dinner at a farm in Santa Cruz, Calif., and soon them them on the road. By the mid-2000s, they were hosting dinners across the country, including Central Texas. They now host more than 100 events a years and have taken the dinners outside the U.S. to 12 countries, including Mexico and Italy. (Soon, theyíll add Chile and Argentina to that list.)
On Feb. 9, Outstanding in the Field will return to Texas to visit Jason and Lynsey Kramerís Yonder Way Farm in Fayetteville, where Emmer & Rye chef Kevin Fink and his team will prepare a huge meal in the middle of their farm outside La Grange.
