New Hampshire may be best known- at least the past three weeks- as Walt "Heisenberg" White’s hideout in "Breaking Bad," but it’s also the home state of two big-timers who’ve made their homes in Texas: Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs and Will Sheff of Okkervil River. Bonner hosts the band Friday Oct. 4 at Club DeVille. Cover is $15 at the door (and, possible more if you’re wearing a Miami Heat jersey) and the Laughing opens. The show benefits Rock On, which provides funds to various entities that help kids follow their dreams. Doors open at 9 p.m.
"We all love Austin and most of the band still lives here—at the same time, my hometown of Meriden, NH has always held a special place in my heart…" Sheff said in a press release. "Matt shares a similar passion for New Hampshire and Texas. So it’s wonderful for both of us to have the chance to collaborate and raise money that will benefit kids in two great states."
Bonner and Sheff both grew up in the time and place- 1980’s New Hampshire- captured by Okkervil’s latest LP "The Silver Gymnasium."
"Okkervil River is one of my all-time favorite bands. I credit them with getting me into indie rock," said Bonner, who grew up in Concord, NH. "I’ve loved following all of the New Hampshire related promotion surrounding ‘The Silver Gymnasium’ release. I’m psyched to team up with them this weekend for a special show in support of the Rock On Foundation."
Okkervil River plays ACL Fest Friday from 5-6 p.m.
