Will Red River Street between 6th and 10th Streets be declared a cultural district? That resolution from the Music Commission, which would provide incentives and programs to help protect live music venues on Red River, is on the Austin City Council agenda for a vote Oct. 17.

The Austin Music People (AMP) music business trade organization, which is suggesting the area be called the Red River Cultural District (RRCD), is also asking the city council to extend parking meter maximums in the area from three hours to five, as well as ticket-free loading and unloading for bands outside music venues.

Also on the city council schedule Oct. 17 is a tougher special events ordinance, which some are calling "the SXSW haircut," designed to make Austin’s March Madness a little more manageable.
