Can’t wait to get the Fun started? Fun Fun Fun Fest Nites shows kick off on Thursday. Thursday night standout shows include a Mohawk bill which finds Roger Sellers and The Tontons opening for Kurt Vile and the Violators and The Parish where Corduroi and Boombaptiste open for RJD2.

FRIDAY

Fun Fun Fun Fest Nites: The Beard Farmers’ Market known as Fun Fun Fun Fest is upon us and the music keeps going from the shores of Lady Bird Lake to the clubs downtown. These late night indoor shows are free to FFF passholders, with hightlights including Thurston Moore’s Chelsea Light Moving at Red 7, with Lemuria, Merchandise and the Young opening. Next door at Holy Mountain the men swinging rhymes like sledgehammers will answer to Antwon, Fat Tony, Kosha Dillz and P-Tek… Black Angels guitarist Christian Bland and his bands of Revelators will bring modern psychedelia to Hotel Vegas, then you have a punk rock afterparty at the Mohawk with Subhumans, White Lung and Criaturas… Before he nailed the spiritually vacant hipsters of Portlandia (thank God Austin doesn’t have any), Fred Armisen was married to a Mekon named Sally and played drums in Trenchmouth. His DJ set midnight at the Belmont should be a gas. Especially since he yields the turntables to Bob Mould, who used to be in the best band band ever named something a clerk at a farm equipment rental location might say.

SATURDAY

Fun Fun Fun Nites: Put me down for Lee Fields & the Expressions, Brownout and Latasha Lee & the Black Ties at Red 7 and I will prove that I can handle the funky soul sounds in such quantities… Cro-Mags, Iron Age, Ceremony and the Impalers will blow off so much steam that Holy Mountain may become a volcano, and then over at the Mohawk there will be comedy and music from Tenacious D, Craig Robinson, Jenny Slate and Matt Bearden… And just so everyone is covered, there’s a dance party going on at ACL Live with Urban Outfitters sponsoring Simian Mobile Disco, Twin Shadow and Making Time DJs… Hot French dance duo Jupiter is at Empire Control Room.

SUNDAY

Fun Fun Fun Nites wrap up with a bit of a hangover and slight exhaustion, but you’ve got Nik Turner’s Hawkwind at Red 7 just after midnight, with Skycrawler, Wet Lungs and Spraypaint. The Mohawk ends the fest strong, too, with Cayucas, Good Field and Growl. Then there’s Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 at Empire Control Room. Sleep is for wimps
