While it’s surely breaking some sort of taboo to begin SXSW speculation before Thanksgiving, we here at Team 360 have been casually perusing 2014 album release dates and glancing at artist tour schedules. A small roster of likely candidates are already beginning to emerge. Beck, for example, has a new album scheduled to drop in February of 2014. Broken Bells, the collaboration project between Danger Mouse and Shins lead singer/guitarist James Mercer has a new album out on January 14 and a short stint of tour dates that drops the band off in New Orleans on March 12. And with a rumored 2014 OutKast Reunion on the horizon, my money says everyone from the folks behind Fader Fort to the corporate behemoths who brought you Jay-Z and Prince are jockeying for a SXSW slot for the ATLiens.

But here’s the coup d’état.

Miley Cyrus, the former Disney princess turned prime cultural disruptordu jour has a tour trajectory that almost certainly puts her in town for the festival. The 2014 SXSW Music Festival runs from March 11-16. Miley plays Dallas on March 12, Tulsa on the 13th, San Antonio on March 14 and Houston on March 16. This leaves a wide open hole in her schedule on Friday, March 15.

Oh, snap! Are we ready for this Austin?

There are so many questions, so many possibilities.

Will the skinny jean hipsters shun Miley? Doubtful.

How many hip-hop artists will put in cameos on her set? My guess is many.

Will Big Freedia’s twerk team be called onstage to show everyone how it’s done? Anything is possible.

Will she bring the lip-synching kitty from the AMA’s and upstage even Grumpy Cat? Who knows.

Will disgruntled Austinites cite this as evidence that SXSW has jumped the shark? Obviously.

Any way you cut it, this could be amazing, folks.
