Paula Rester is leaving her position of wine director at the fine dining restaurant Congress. The Austin service industry veteran, who also spent time at Vino Vino, is moving to New York City to serve as a sommelier at Maialino, an Italian restaurant from Danny Meyer’s esteemed Union Square Hospitality Group.

"I am very grateful for the opportunity that the Congress Austin family gave me, and will always fondly remember being part of a wonderful team that provided such excellent hospitality," said Rester. "I look forward to taking the lessons I learned during my time in Austin and applying them to my new role with USHG and Maialino."

Rester, who first served as a captain and floor sommelier at Congress when it opened in December 2010 before leaving briefly for Vino Vino, is one of Austin’s best service industry professionals, and her hospitality was one of the ingredients that helped make Congress one of the best dining experiences in the city.

Under Rester’s leadership, Congress was named one of "America’s 100 Best Wine Restaurants" by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Congress has not named Rester’s replacement but hopes to soon.
