If you love Luby’s, just wait until you hear this: H-E-B is going to be selling Luby’s macaroni and cheese next week.

Luby’s is teaming up with H-E-B to sell mac and cheese in the freezer aisle of the grocery store. Next year, they’ll add the beloved square fish entree. Contributed by Luby’s.

The 70-year-old cafeteria chain has sold mac and cheese at its restaurants since the 1940s, and starting Dec. 5, you can buy a frozen version at more than 270 H-E-B stores in Texas.

H-E-B will sell two kinds of Luby’s mac and cheese — the original and one with jalapeños — for $6.95 for 40 ounces.

Early next year, the partnership between the two companies will grow to include another Luby’s favorite: a fried fish entree affectionately known as “square fish.”

Luby’s is turning 70 this year, and to celebrate, it is partnering with H-E-B to sell some of its most popular dishes. Ralph Barrera/AMERICAN-STATESMAN/2006
