Red River bar Headhunters has closed its door according to a report from the Austin Chronicle. The bar, located at 720 Red River St., booked a variety of lesser known metal, punk and hip-hop acts during over a decade of existence.

The tiki-themed club gained notoriety last year when it received a visit from Spike TV’s "Bar Rescue." Show host Jon Taffer told the Statesman’s Gary Dinges that the club was the worst bar in America, rife with roaches, mold and the smell of cat pee. The show gave the club a $150,000 makeover and rebranded it as a steam-punk themed establishment Metal and Lace. The name never really caught on and the locals continued to refer to the club as Headhunter’s which was the name it carried during SXSW gigs last March.

Club owner Steve Ricci confirmed to the Chronicle that the bar is closing and said he is looking at nine possible sites for relocation.
