Weird City Hip-hop Festival which launched last year will return in 2015 to Delta Millworks, a warehouse space in East Austin. The second edition of the festival is headlined by rapper/producer Jay Electronica on Friday and Detroit oddball Danny Brown on Saturday. Backpack rap lifer Aesop Rock and new school gangsta Freddie Gibbs will also perform. A solid undercard of top Austin hip-hop talent including Riders Against the Storm, Space Camp Death Squad, Subkulture Patriots and Da’Shade Moonbeam provide support.
The festival is promoted by Austin Mic Exchange, the collective behind the weekly hip-hop open mic on Tuesdays at Spiderhouse Ballroom and Empire ATX affiliates Heard Entertainment. As they did last year, the fest will host a series of performance and production workshops for youths (age 12-21) during the day.
Weekend Passes are on sale now for $65 (GA) and $150 (VIP) at www.weirdcityfest.com. VIP passes include access to exclusive events before, during and after the fest such as the Closing BBQ, expedited entry, and an exclusive viewing area with complimentary food and beverages.
