Doug Sahm documentary fundraiser at the Broken Spoke. “Sir Doug and the Genuine Texas Cosmic Groove,” a documentary about one of the state’s quintessential musicians, was a hit at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival. Its makers are trying to secure music rights for the film as they seek wider release, as well as campaigning to get Sahm into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Performers at this “Groovers Gathering” include Shawn Sahm, Augie Meyers, Ray Benson, Jack Ingram, Bruce Robison, Kelly Willis, Kevin Russell, Bill Kirchen, Ernie Durawa, Kimmie Rhodes, Alvin Crow, Bobby Earl Smith, Colin Gilmore, Nakia, Cory Reinisch and Jolie Goodnight, fronting a house band with guitarist John X.
