Dozens of Austinites joined Fran Junk Wednesday to say goodbye to the South Austin burger institution she co-founded with her husband, Dan, in 1973. Demolition crews went to work to take down the structure that will give way to the flagship Torchy’s Tacos later this year.

“It was a good place. I enjoyed it so much, but everything’s gotta have an end,” Junk told the Statesman’s James Barragan. “It just happened that we grew. It’s an honor. I feel proud.” Read Barragan’s story here on and watch video from the afternoon below.
