Mishka Shubaly is so many things, his email signature probably needs a scroll bar. He’s five years sober, a writer of bestselling Kindle singles, an ultra-distance runner, and a reggae musician with a Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia University. This man of many talents comes to the North Door on Tuesday to share some of his chart-topping reggae tunes.
Shubaly has many ties to Austin: he made three albums with Matthew McConaughey’s ‘j.k. livin’ record label, and one track on his album ‘Talk About’ features Austin’s favorite artist, Willie Nelson.
His gruff, spoken vocals have earned him comparisons to Johnny Cash and Tom Waits. His sharp lyrics reflect his struggles as an alcoholic and his observations of the human condition.
Tuesday’s show at North Door also features JT Habersaat, Mike Wiebe from Riverboat Gamblers, and Dirty Charley. The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $8.
