When news broke that Holy Mountain was closing at the end of September, owner James Taylor said the club would go out with a bang. He wasn’t kidding. In addition to an already stellar lineup of locals the club will host several notable roadshows including a Sept. 16 appearance by rising Norweigan artist Jenny Hval.

Today it was announced that Thundercat, the bass-wielding musical madman who has backed everyone from Erykah Badu to Ty Dollar $ign will play the 200-capacity club on Sept. 23. A modern jazz mastermind, Thundercat has largely been an underground phenom, slowly working his way into the mainstream musical consciousness. He logged an afternoon set at ACL Fest in 2012 and Fun Fun Fun Fest last year. But his musical input on Kendrick Lamar’s brilliant and groundbreaking release "To Pimp a Butterfly," hailed by many publications (including this one) as one of the year’s best has catapulted his status.

Needless to say, this should be an epic event for fans of instrumental prowess and progressive musical structures. Tickets are $20 and go on sale Friday at 9 a.m.
