If you’re anything like us, that string of 90 degree days last week has you dreading the sticky, sweaty months ahead. So today’s announcement is a friendly reminder of how fun summer in Austin can be.

On June 18, the 2ND Street Soundcheck, a free downtown block party in the Second Street district (west of Congress Avenue) celebrates its fifth anniversary with an excellent roster of local bands. Powerful ladies, soul maven Tameca Jones and electro-soul trio Keeper, lead the lineup. GOBI, The Warplanes, Migrant Kids and Sour Bridges will also perform.

The family-friendly event also includes food, art vendors and in-store performances at some of the district’s boutiques. Sponsored by Google this year, the event benefits the Austin Music Foundation and public radio station KUTX 98.9 FM. More information.
