About the artist: Now this! This is synthpop in its purest form. If Walter White sold synthpop instead of crystal meth, this is the synthpop he would sell. Devotedly uptempo and slickly chipper, the Los Angeles quartet employs all the bouncy guitars in the book in service of gutsy songs about boys and girls who “care about nothing real at all.” Frontman Sean Scanlon taps into the falsetto well where appropriate (as often as possible), and the band washes every song in escalating, electronic whimsy.
Their self-titled 2013 EP effortlessly dips into play-on-loop waters; last summer’s “Killer Whales” single has no idea what the word “irony” means, which bodes well for the band’s debut LP, due out in late March.
