From: Portland, Ore.
About the artist: Skilled as a singer and an electronic producer, Kmeto weaves her smoky vocals into elaborate soundscapes where futuristic flourishes swirl over bubbling deep house beats. The effect is entrancing.
Determined to make her mark as a solo artist, she holed up and taught herself to use Ableton shortly after landing in Portland during the rainy season several years ago. "I wanted to do it on my own because I knew the moment that I put someone else on stage—particularly a man—they’d probably take credit for all of it," she told Resident Advisor magazine last year.
In 2013 she self-released "Crisis" a stunning, sensual album that caught the attention of TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. Maintaining full creative control, Kmeto recorded and mixed her upcoming album "Inevitable" in Sitek’s L.A. studio. The album is scheduled to come out on Sitek’s Federal Prism label this year. Then she spent the latter part of 2014 supporting TV on the Radio on tour. Does Kmeto’s SXSW appearance add extra weight to the rumor that her buddy Sitek’s band, booked to play in Dallas on March 19 and 20 will make a stop at the fest? Unclear. Either way, expect Kmeto to make a very big splash at the fest.
