Considering he raps and sings entirely in French, je ne sais quoi Stromae was saying during his quick set at the Fader Fort (presented by Converse) Wednesday afternoon. I do know it didn’t matter at all. A tall, thin figure, the Belgian producer, whose name translates to "maestro," seemed to tremble and cover a bit when he took the stage.
But as soon as the music kicked in his body unwound. Soon he was spastically vogueing, sashaying, physically embodying the swells of electronic sound. The audience went insane.
Stromae is already a superstar in Europe. His SXSW appearance is part of a push to break him in America. If the ease with which he absolutely owned the Fader Fort crowd is any indication he’s well on his way to world domination.
