It’s hard to get far on the Internet without running into an adorable animal being irresistibly cute. Next week, as South By Southwest Interactive rolls into town, so will some of the ‘net’s favorite pets.
1. Grumpy Cat (and friends)
Grumpy Cat made her SXSW debut at the fest in 2013. She returned in 2014, and yes, she’ll be back for 2015. Friskies is bringing Grumpy Cat and some "friends" (Nala Cat, Waffles, SamHasEyebrows, Oskar the Blind Cat and his brother Klaus) to the grand opening celebration of the Haus of Bacon (200 Congress Ave.), a bacon-centric art gallery. As in, portraits of celebrity kitties made of bacon. Because if people love anything more than cute animals, its bacon.
2. Tuna Melts My Heart
The chiweenie with an overbite and his human, Courtney Dasher will be fresh off a BookPeople appearance (7 p.m. Friday, March 6). The unconventional looking dog has 1.2 million followers on his Instagram account, @TunaMeltsMyHeart. So far on his schedule, Tuna will be at Whistle and DogVacay’s SXSW Beers and Barks Yappy Hour from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
3. Robot Petting Zoo
Okay maybe this doesn’t pass the cute/adorable test, but it’s pretty cool. A three-day session will allow viewers the ability to interact, learn and play with ground and aerial robotic devices, including a robot that helped save lives at the World Trade Center. The session will be at the Marriott Sunday-Tuesday for badgeholders.
4. America’s Next Cat Star
Last year, Animal Planet brought us Lil BUB. We haven’t heard tell of her return to the fest, but Animal Planet will be throwing a "purr-ty" (we’re not sorry) on Sunday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cedar Street Courtyard where the finalists for America’s Next Cat Star will be revealed. Party-goers will vote and dance to music from the Spazmatics.
Austinites love to keep it local, and that’s no different during SXSW. We’ll be on the lookout for our favorite Austin pet and news hound, Kaxan, the official KXAN Austin News Mascot.
