OUT THIS WEEK
Crooks, "Wildfire." Spiking twangy country with Latin accents of accordion and trumpet, six-piece local outfit Crooks extends a Central Texas aesthetic that stretches back through the likes of the Sir Douglas Quartet and Joe King Carrasco & the Crowns. Crooks’ sound bends a bit more toward the dark side, pulling in elements of spaghetti-western indie rock on 10 original tracks plus a cover of "The Git Go" by legendary Texas outlaw songwriter Billy Joe Shaver. Release show July 11 at Scoot Inn, in-store July 14 at Waterloo Records. Here’s a promo video the band made for the record, with music, interviews and live footage:[youtube=]
Ease Them Pistols, "Bittersuite" EP. Seven songs from the trippy roots quartet that describes its music as "bootgaze." Release show July 9 at Hole in the Wall.
