Randy Rogers Band at Waterloo Records. Arguably San Marcos’ biggest country music export since George Strait’s Cheatham Street heyday, the Randy Rogers Band drives home its ballads and boot-scooters with plenty of twanging guitars and sweet fiddle runs. The new “Nothing Shines Like Neon” finds them leaving Nashville major labels behind for a more homespun album that was recorded at Austin studio Cedar Creek with Buddy Cannon, who’s handled several of Willie Nelson’s recent records. They get prime vocal cameos from Alison Krauss (“Look Out Yonder”) and Jamey Johnson (“Actin’ Crazy”), but it’s the guest turn by Jerry Jeff Walker on rockin’ rave-up “Takin It As It Comes” that most squarely plants Rogers and his bandmates in their Texas roots.
