Free Week, Day Four. The “Free Week” concept is perhaps least relevant on Mondays, when plenty of places around town present quality music for no cover on a regular basis. South of the river is especially rich in options, with soul outfits the Nightowls and Matchmaker Band at the Highball, blue belters the Peterson Brothers doing happy hour at the Continental Club, and singer-songwriter Christine Albert’s Mystery Monday show at El Mercado Backstage with this month’s guest host Jimmy LaFave. … Downtown destinations include Surfer Blood, Otis the Destroyer and Lowin on the Mohawk’s outdoor stage, with five more bands inside; Sounds Del Mar atop six bands on two stages at Sidewinder; a Belmont bill with Duncan Fellows, Sideshow Tragedy and Grace London; and blues-rocker Eric Tessmer at Geraldine’s. … Head east for the rootsy sounds of Amanda Cevallos, the Love Leighs and Jim Stringer at the White Horse.

Fifth St. location with the Moeller Brothers. … Hotel Vegas continues its $3 shows with Duel, Medulla, SkyAcre, Lady Killer and Odd Fellows. … You can’t go wrong at the Continental playing to hear honky-tonker Dale Watson downstairs in the Club or the Church on Monday jazz band upstairs in the Gallery.
