Miguel at Emo’s. 2015 finds R&B and neo-soul swept up in a brilliant renaissance as young artists wantonly ditch tried-and-true formulas, exploring electronic soundscapes, repurposing old rock riffs and pushing the genre into new and exciting territory. Miguel’s “Wildheart,” a mixture of steamy bedroom tunes and anthems of uprise both personal and political, shoots to the top of this year’s releases. It’s probably your last chance to see the 29-year-old crooner in a crowd of less than 2,000. $39.50-$45. 8 p.m. doors. 2015 E. Riverside Drive. emosaustin.com. — D.S.S.

Jon Dee Graham & the Painted Redstarts CD release at Strange Brew. Though they loosely fit into the modern indie-rock realm, the Redstarts might have sounded equally in sync with the underground alternative bands that put a creative stamp on Austin music in the 1980s. It’s fitting, then, that the lone cover on their debut album, “Foreign Fields,” is a song by one of those bands, the True Believers’ fevered “She’s Got” (performed as a duet with Alejandro Escovedo). As generationally gratifying as that track is, the record’s most compelling moments come from the atmospheric guitar washes on mercurial originals such as “”Puzzles” and “Watch Over Me.” A guest on this bill is Jon Dee Graham, father of the band’s leader. $10. 10 p.m. 5326 Manchaca Road. strangebrewloungeside.com. — P.B.
