Headliners for F1 Fan Fest, the free downtown party that takes plays during the Formula One Grand Prix were announced today and it’s a fantastic selection of artists. The event throws down a booty moving kick off on the outdoor stage Thursday, Oct. 22 with Trombone Shorty, the big, bad, brass superstar who hosted the best dance party of the weekend last year at Austin City Limits Festival, and L.A.’s Latin rock powerhouse Ozomatli. Rap pioneers Public Enemy will headline Saturday, Oct. 24 on a bill that also includes hip-hop and electronic music innovator A-Trak and quasi-soul singer Mayer Hawthorne plays alongside singer-songwriter Elle King on Friday, Oct. 23.
In past year’s downtown Fan Fest central has been located in the Second Street district, but this year it moves to Rainey St. The outdoor stage will be located near I-35 in the parking lot behind the I-Hop on Cesar Chavez St.
There will also be an eclectic selection of live music events related to Fan Fest at local clubs and stores in the Rainey St. district and beyond. Participating venues include Banger’s Sausage House, the Bungalow, the Continental Club, the Mohawk, the Belmont, Toy Joy and Austin Rocks. The club gigs feature a mix of local and national artists. While the outdoor stage activities are all free and open to the public, shows at venues might have cover charges. A few of the currently scheduled club gigs are listed below.
