Iconic songwriter Billy Joe Shaver, legendary guitarist James Burton, Asleep at the Wheel founder Ray Benson and honky-tonk master Dale Watson are among the artists performing at the second annual Ameripolitan Music Awards, which moves downtown to the Paramount Theatre for this year’s show on Feb. 17.
The event, which Watson created as an old-school alternative to contemporary country awards shows, honors achievements in honky tonk, western swing, rockabilly and outlaw categories. Many nominees also will perform, including James Hand, the Derailers, Amber Digby, Elana James and Jason Roberts.
Also in the lineup is rockabilly trio High Noon, recipient of this year’s “Keeper of the Key” award. Shaver and Burton will be honored with “Founder of the Sound” awards in addition to performing.
Tickets to the 8 p.m. gala, which will feature Sirius XM radio hosts Elizabeth Cook and Mojo Nixon as emcees, start at $37 at austintheatre.org. Further details about the awards are at ameripolitan.com.
