Wagner’s “Flying Dutchman,” Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” and Donizetti’s “The Daughter of the Regiment”  are on Austin’s Opera’s 2016-17 season.

Austin Opera announced its 30th season Saturday night at the Long Center before the opening performance of  Floyd’s “Of Mice & Men.”

The new season opens on Sept. 17 with a special one night only performance of “The Manchurian Candidate” by Kevin Puts, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Puts and former UT faculty member.

“The Manchurian Candidate” is based on the 1959 political thriller by Richard Condon about a U.S. sergeant captured during the Korean War then brainwashed into being an assassin in service of a Communist conspiracy.
