Ruthie Foster at the Roost. At this point it’s almost routine: Ruthie Foster releases an album, and it’s nominated for a blues Grammy. Her new disc, “Promise of a Brand New Day,” got the nod earlier this month after both of her last two records received nominations. Not that Foster is so easily classified in the blues category; she incorporates folk, gospel and other forms into a style that hinges on her powerful vocal delivery. $25-$75. 8 p.m. 2113 Wells Branch Parkway. theroostaustin.com.

Also: The first of two traditional year-end shows with Willie Nelson at ACL Live features country metamodernist Sturgill Simpson opening, but the show’s been technically sold out for weeks. … Solid local options abound on South Congress, with Uncle Lucius and Toni Price at the Continental Club plus James McMurtry and the Ephraim Owens Experience upstairs in the Continental Gallery, and 8½ Souvenirs down the street at C-Boy’s.
