Willie Nelson was the guest of honor as photographs, posters, platinum records and other historical items from the Briscoe Center for American History’s Willie Nelson Collection were unveiled Friday at a new “Willie Nelson, Texas Icon” exhibit inside the north end zone plaza of Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Nelson, University of Texas President Bill Powers and Briscoe Center executive director Don Carleton said a few words in dedicating the new exhibit, which will be open to the public most days in an area used as a food court for UT students during the week.

Nelson kept his remarks short, saying that having the exhibit in the stadium named after his close friend Darrell Royal topped even his Thursday visit to the White House, where President Obama “came up onstage and sang ‘On the Road Again’ with me.”
