My friends think it’s funny that I still do my old high school football workout from 20 years ago — the one where the coaches put us through an intense cardio practice followed by a weight lifting circuit. I’ve changed it to 20 minutes of cardio on the treadmill, bike or Gazelle glider, followed by 40 minutes of weight lifting alternate muscle groups on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesday is usually a 5-mile run day and the weekends are for pleasure exercise such as wake surfing or skiing on Lake Travis, mountain biking in the Hill Country or a run around Lady Bird Lake. I love it because it works and feels great. I’m probably much healthier now than I was years ago due to the great diet my wife keeps us on with good clean organic foods. Plus, I’ll have a beer just about every night after a workout, which I count as the electrolytes I need after an hour of intense sweating.
