For many years I was in a leadership role at a major airline where long hours and extensive travel seemed to keep me from exercising. I retired in 2005. Now I do Jazzercise three or four times a week and run 15 to 20 miles a week, sometimes more. My grown daughter has been my greatest inspiration. She has a 2-year-old and continued to run until two weeks prior to delivery. Her second marathon was Boston 2014. I couldn’t be more proud of her, and she has encouraged me every step of the way. I ran my first two half-marathons this past year. I have three grandchildren, ages 2, 8 and 11. To celebrate the older children’s birthdays, we do a 5K together during their birthday month. I have been a part of several running training programs in Austin but am now part of the Jeff Galloway-Austin program. I can’t imagine my life without exercise. It gives me the much-needed energy to keep up with my grandchildren. I want to be a positive role model, have fun and get outside with them!
